The Kiss
From my mouth to your mouth
let kindness whisper
our saliva mingles
lips draw apart holding warmth
From my mouth to your mouth
Strung flower petals
Sway in pirouette
With eyes locked on feeling
Holding time not concealing
From my mouth to your mouth
In the birth of something found
In the depth of all profound
This free communal gesture
Gives way to something fresher
From my mouth to your mouth
From honey to sugar
Through the bowl of your lips
Sending a message
From my mouth to your mouth
We
Kiss

Freestyle
Because I’m barefoot
Does not mean I need shoes
Because I’m drunk
Has little to do with booze
Because I’m an addict
Does not mean that’s what I choose
Because I’m Dying
Does not mean I’m confused
and
Because you’re watching
Does not mean you have a clue
I’m this little human, in this little space, in this little room
of this little building, on this little block, in this little neighborhood,
of this little city, in this little county, of this little state, of this little country, of
This BIG reality
Because I’m dancing
Does not mean I know the step
Because I’m crying
Does not mean I’ve wept
Because I’m learning
Does not mean it’s kept
And because you’re educated
Does not mean you’re adept
And just because you’re still watching
Does not mean you have depth
Why don’t your take me, as a libation
To be drank and guzzled and sipped
Let my flavor be tasted
Nothing wasted
Let your lips dip and trip
And take in a morsel of sopping gravid wet
But never think you’ve tasted
the best
of me
yet

Black Love Is
Black love is warmth you can taste
A look that becomes a touch
Molding folding beyond embrace
Full glowing embers
Tender and rough more, more than enough
Black love is cold nights, rocking babies
Spoon feeding and grandma’s recipes
Chill bumps of chocolate rising
Lips appetizing
Black love is
Black love is
Knowing your madness
The nightmares
The feelings your can’t share
As you stare
It’s the shape of your behind
Mighty fine in recline
Black love is
Black love is
Proudness, the way you step
Your regal neck
The lilt of your brow
In Black, Red and Green
It’s the sheen of you
Black love is
Black love is
In true definition
What other vision
Could possibly reach the depth, that
Black love is
Black love is
Knowing who I am
Knowing I understand
Interpretive chants of our Native land
Of you
In you
And always with you
Black love is
Black love is

Indian Summer
Notes sing in Indian Summer
Back to the Winter where the wind is harsh
And complements my soul
The anchored boats a sway in the sun
Rot in the Winter
Bringing sweet mildew to my taste
How easy to see my footsteps
In the Winter
Where seagulls don’t sing
Where I can hold the cold bundled
In the corner
Away from the heat
Notes sing in Indian Summer
And the sixties play on stage
With a little harmony
And a lot of charm
Old men with remembered past
Only their bandannas are fresh
Their badge from the Summer
Where innocence was smoked
And flowers were grown
When the grass was soft
And sex was free
Notes sing in Indian Summer
Where smooth ripples lap softly
And I can see the patterns
Of
Winter coming again
Remember
Notes sing in
Indian Summer

Look Away
LOOK AWAY
Drinking the sun in the cup of my hand
Glimpsing derelicts picking up cans
Watching the wasted passed care and concern
Holding the wind and feeling the sun burn
LOOK AWAY
Days with no name
Nights into shame
Savaging dancers
Questions no answers
LOOK AWAY
From amorous faces eyeing hello
To children asking what no one can know
To a senior hobbling leaning on a cane
Yet elegantly trying just the same
LOOK AWAY
How easy to hide, cut off from inside
While the fear puts up bars
It’s easily denied
That no one has cried
just
LOOK AWAY
